The former ancestral home of a famed village Ayurveda Doctor ‘Veda Mahattaya’, this property has now been styled as a charming and exclusive Boutique Hotel.
The Wallawwa is set on four and a half acres of coconut estate and Bawa designed tropical gardens minutes from Bentota beach and the Indian Ocean.
The property, dappled with fruit and medicinal trees, palms and orchids is a sanctuary for native and migratory tropical birdlife. Expansive views of the property are offered from three individual villas overlooking the colonnaded garden pavilion and freshwater pool. The original manor house, shrine room or Budu Ge and traditional Wedding hall were built c.1850. The estate ownership was transferred from original family members of the Veda Mahattaya in 2001 when a sympathetic restoration began. The name Nisala Arana meaning ‘an abode of peace’ remains auspicious and was serendipitously offered by a visiting Buddhist Monk and his friend a Professor of the village just before officially opening our doors to friends, family and guests.
With an attractive collection of outings, activities and experiences we are still likely to find you by the pool or adrift in a garden hammock. For those with a bigger purpose our professional services also include tailor-made wellness retreats, destination beach & garden weddings and bespoke boutique tours of Sri Lanka.
